UPDATED October, 11, 2007: Rules Discussion
League Rules:

1. PARTICIPATION / MONEY:

  • All of you have agreed to take part in the inaugural session of this league. There are only 2 expectations. You have as much fun with it as you can and you talk as much smack as your mouth and typing fingers can dish out. It's all for fun, so make the best of it. This is Madden '08. If you have thin skin, then go buy Tiger Woods '08.
  • This league is strictly for bragging rights. There is no money involved.

2. OPENING DAY:

  • Opening day will be Wednesday September 12, 2007. That gives you 5 days to examine the league rules and ask any questions you have.

3. RULES DISCUSSION:

  • Feel free to question or challenge any of the rules. There is a league message board for your use, or you can send an email to Rob, myself, or the entire league, with your opinions. When the initial rules discussion email went out, very few of you responded to it. If you don't like a certain aspect of the rules, please share your opinion. That doesn't necessarily mean that changes will be made, as all rules changes will be subject to league voting, but we do want this to be fun for everyone.

4. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS / LEAGUE WEBSITE / VOICE CHAT:

  • This league is for the PC version of Madden '08 only. Games can be played either online via the internet (most games likey will be), or you may get together and play in person, provided the game is setup in exhibition mode and is played according to the league rules and standard internet rules play (i.e. 5 minute quarters, fair play on, no custom playbooks, etc..). The decision is up to you and your opponent for that round.
  • The website for the league is: http://fantasyaddicts.teamopolis.com/
  • All participants should have received an invite to register on the website. If you have not, please contact Rob or myself as soon as conveniently possible.
  • A voice chat server may be available for internet play. Details regarding this are forthcoming and if one is made available, all league participants will be provided the internet IP address or hostname required to connect.

5. SCHEDULING

  • There will be 1 game per week, with 10 games total. Please stick to this schedule as best as you can and please do not play games for future rounds before they are scheduled. Obviously, this will not be strictly enforced. Everyone has busy lives, and we understand that. Play the games when it's most convenient for you. We don't want anyone to feel pressured into feeling obligated to get their game(s) in if more important aspects of your life must take precedence. All we ask is that you do your best.
  • The schedule is posted on the league website.

6. DIVISIONS

  • There will be a single division containing all 8 teams.

7. PLAYOFFS

  • Everyone will be in the playoffs. Regular season standings will determine playoff seeding.

8. TEAMS

  • You may choose the team you want to play. This allows you to pick a team that has strengths that fit your playstyle.
  • You can play a different team every game if you choose. You are not required to play the same team every week.
  • If two players like the same team, you may play each other as such (i.e. Colts vs Colts)

9. SCORING

  • This will obviously be on the honor system. Once you and your opponent have decided which game will count towards your statistics, that is the game you will submit to Rob or myself for entry into the league website. To be fair, this decision should be agreed upon prior to the start of the game.
  • The results should be emailed to myself and/or Rob at the conclusion of each game by *BOTH* participants. This will enable us to have accurate scoring for the website, and in the event any discrepancies arise, we can have a discussion to resolve them. No results will be posted unless both game participants agree on the final score.

10. STANDINGS TIE BREAKER

  • Total points will be the tiebreaker for standings. Total points is listed as "GF" on the standings page (it stands for "goals for", and is what I was stuck with when I setup the site, since it was free).

11. FAIR PLAY

  • Fair play will be on.

12. PRACTICE

  • Practice with whoever you want whenever you want.

13. DISCONNECTS

  • All games should be played to their conclusion. Disconnects happen for both technical and personal reasons.
  • If a disconnect happens because of technical reasons, the game must be replayed in its entirety regardless of the status of the game (with regard to score or time remaining). If another attempt is made to play the game and another disconnect happens for technical reasons, then the game should be rescheduled when technical issues will no longer interfere with its completion.
  • If a disconnect happens because of poor sportsmanship, the game is automatically forfeited by the disconnecting participant. If there is a dispute, then Rob and/or myself will assist in resolving it. If you acquire a reputation for disconnecting due to poor sportsmanship, a league vote may be held to determine if you should be allowed to continue participating in the league. This should be interpreted as, "If you are gettin' your butt whooped, be a man and finish the game. You know you'd want your opponent to finish the game if you were whoppin' on them."
